Mermaid and Her Friend Original Painting

MerMay is a fun artist prompt for the month of May that celebrates mermaids and the fantastical. This year I wanted to participate!

This piece is about a mermaid who takes on a new pet turtle by saving him from some trash in which he was entangled.

For this art piece, I decided on a mixed-media drawing technique.

It’s a new technique for me that I just recently learned at an art workshop and wanted to try it on a more finished piece.

This is my first time trying this technique for a finished art piece and not just in my sketchbook.

This technique is basically colored pencil on top of a painted background.

The colored pencil on the watercolor painting leaves a really interesting texture.
